Title: 4 months SH/OD free
Post by: terrified heart on February 18, 2013, 10:57:31 PM
Having a hard time at the moment, and SH/OD thoughts been quite strong. I am managing to resist them tho. It has been 4 months since I last SH or OD. Last OD was 14th Sept 2012, and last SH was 24th Sept 2012. Have learnt to live with the thoughts and feelings and not act impulsively. This is still not something I can manage if I'm drunk and upset, but I have cut my drinking down dramatically.

Just thought I'd share. Need some encouragement that I can stay SH free. Love and best wishes to you all  :holdingflower:

That's fantastic, well done! I think once you're out of the cycle of sh a little bit it is in some ways easier not to do it coz you know you don't want to ruin what you already achieved, whereas if you sh one day and a few days later feel like doing it again its not such a big decision. I also agree that alcohol has a big influence on our ability to resist the temptation to sh and seeing that as a potential problem and acting accordingly is a really positive step to make. It is possible to keep going and the urges do subside and become a lot less regular as you get used to not doing it. (Although they don't go away forever but are easier to resist in my experience). Thank you for sharing and well done again!!

Even though you've had a blip what you achieved is still worthy of praise, most importantly because of the amount of effort it has taken. So again, well done! Now you just need to keep in mind the bigger picture. It's one blip - that doesn't mean all your hard work is ruined although I know it can feel like that. It is better to not sh for 4 months and then do it once than be sh'ing all that time!
Hope you're feeling ok.

Well done for lasting so long. A blip is just that. A blip. You have done really well.
