Title: Fluoxetine - anyone on it?
Post by: rainbow on December 22, 2011, 08:11:08 PM
Hi,

I've just been prescribed this today. Have never been on any ADs. Am really scared of starting it. Scared of side effects. Feeling ill.

When's they best time to take it do you think? My GP didn't say.

Thanks xxxx

Take it in the evenings with food. I was fine on it for about 2 years n came off it coz I didn't need it anymore. After a year or so I went back on it n I was so ill on it for some reason. I'm sure you'll be fine Hun. Hope they work for you

I'm on a pretty high dose of it and have been for a while. Never really had any issues with it, except when I started it disrupted my sleep - but I now take it in the mornings for that reason and it's fine. I've definitely never felt ill on it like I have with other meds. I hope it helps x

Thanks guys. :)

I'm really scared I'm gonna be poorly off them and ruin Christmas for everyone. I'm gonna take my first one either Sunday night/Monday morning. I can't risk ruining Christmas. my GP said I could make me drowsy, or wide awake! Will have to see when I take it. Then I can decide what's the best time to take it. Xx

I used to take it.....I didn't really have any particularly bad side effects from it. I did feel nauseous and not sleep very well...but that then I wast really eating/sleeping well before I started it either. I changed because I didn't really help me, but I know people for whom it has been great. I was prescribed it to take in the morning.

It was one of the first meds I tried, I took it in the morning and had no side effects.

Was only on it for a few months though as it had no real effect.

Had it 4 seperate times.  First 2 times were for PND and it probably saved me completely, no real side effects and got me back on track and into the most positive time of my life, working in maternity and starting my midwifery degree.  3rd time I did get real high anxiety side effects and had to come off before 6 weeks was up because I started to increase my SH.  Final time ok, no side effects at all and taking maximum dose to help with ED habits as well as depression.  Came off them a few weeks ago, but came off all meds and for my own f****d up reasons and not as directed. (not advisable).

On the wole thoug, I'd say it was a good one with minimal side effects for most people and a really positive outcome.

I was on it for a few months. The only side effects I got were increased sensitivity to light (sunglasses helped) and headaches.

I am feeling rather sick, and have headache. My appetite is a bit weird.
But apart for that I'm ok, I think, heads mushed but. Meh. The whole feeling sick thing is getting to me, sick scares me. Feeling sick and being sick freaks me out.

I guess it's only been 4 days so I need to ride it out?

you could try drinking peppermint tea or ginger - both will help with the sicky feeling

Feeling sicky is a common side effect but should pass after a few days, so definitely try to ride it out chick.  I'm on it and have no probs with it (except when I decided to come off it  ::) )  Hope it works for you  :hug1:

They are making me feel very fidgety and anxious :( talked to my gp about this and she said if I'm still like it by my next appt with her (feb 3) we can change them.

I've bEen such a mong this moirning that I forgot to take it. I'm not at work, until 9pm. Shall I take it when I get home, or continue tomorow as normal? X

I had the anxious thing really badly...I have never been anxious until I took them for 4 days. I was almost too anxious to go to the loo n I couldn't function n was always crying n suicidal which was a massive shock for me. You def need to talk to your GP hun n keep an eye on symptoms n make sure they don't get worse hun.
As for taking one when you get home...maybe see how you feel. If you feel worse without it then take it, if you feel better without it then don't take it. Could you speak to a chemis or NHS direct for advice?

I'm on ~ a day that I take in the morning.

I've been on it for about 3 years and definately don't think I would be here now without it.

I'm not sure that it's still as effective as it was but my psychiatrist said he may up it to ~ a day so I'll wait it out.

Hope it's going ok for you.

I'm still very fidgety. I'm finding this hard to cope with. Am seeing my gp on the 3rd of feb.

Had my dosage upped today by my GP. I guess I'll see what that does over the next few days or so.  Hopefully not too many side effects.
