Tattoos - the acceptable form of sh
« on: September 28, 2012, 07:20:03 AM »
I have a number of tattoos, and I sh.

Why is one more acceptable than the other? Surely they're both forms of sh and self expression!

Thoughts ...

people dont get a tattoo because the process hurts, tattoos are pretty, safe and people tend to think a lot about what they would like...i think there is a huge difference.

i have decided that if i dont cut for a year i will get a tattoo of a centaur on my right wrist (so i'd see it if i picked up a tool) because both my old username and this one are centaurs....reminder that there is an alternative.

tattoos are 'healthy expression' i guess

If cutting myself had been a form of self expression, I doubt I would have gone to such great lengths to conceal it.

I can see where you are coming from, but personally I do not see how body mods are any more self harm than, say, cutting your hair is.
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late

when i went to get my one and only tattoo 3 years ago i was chatting to the guy about the fact i sh
we had quite an interesting convo
he said that there is one girl who goes to him and asks him to tattoo her so she doesnt cut herself. like it was a form of harming herself in a more acceptable way
she said to him ' if you dont tattoo me i will harm so please do it'
but i think it down to our own perception of sh and tattoos
to me it was 'just a tattoo', but to others like that girl, it was a way to prevent her sh

My first tattoo i went to get i wanted it placed where i cut myself most to stop me doing it, he refused. I have it on the other arm and have to say i am glad, because i probably wouldnt have stopped then, tattoo or not you just find another place.
I see your point though, and i must admit the pain is a little of the reason i get them and yes when things have been stressful for a while i have craved a tattoo just for the pain of it.
But the real fact is its nothing like. Your getting a tattoo for the appearence not to release pain or emotion. (in most cases)

also a lot of people use tattoos as cover up. hide the things that i assume they regret or are ashamed of with something that they display...kind of transformation

i had a lecturer on the first college course i did

and she said she used to be a s/h'er

and she started getting tatoos as a alternative to s/h

she has it on her back it looks amazing

and apperantly people often come to her

and say when are you going to get it finished

and her answer is when i need and when i want to,

which they dont understand

because they dont know but it works for her

i would love to get tatoos

mainly to help cover up the mess i am

but i darent because we cant aford it

and i know i would get hocked on the pain
no one wants to know
no one cares
those who do want to know,
want to know so they can use it against me
hurt, pain, anger, destruction, death and hatred, the story of my life
all i hope for is some one i can love trust and believe loves and cares for me and wants whats best for me
