Quetiapine

I did not get on with quetiapine. I've had it a few times and it's never ended particularly well. The drowsiness is too much for me to cope with. It leaves me feeling frustrated, which makes me less compliant, which means my psychosis doesn't respond. I don't mind it for a max of 3-7days, during a psychotic episode, but wouldn't take it routinely. I'm on a depot injection called paliperidone now, which is brilliant for me. The only oral AP I can tolerate is risperidone.

Quetiapine has been my miracle drug!! Voices went as soon as I started taking it and I've not had any side effects apart from the obvious drowsiness in the evening. The good thing about it is that there's loads of room to increase it. I've had mine increased 6 times and there's still a lot more I can increase it by.

My friend is able to modify her dose according to how she feels

I really love it! It's not stopped my paranoia so far but there's plenty of room to increase.

Sometimes a change in medication can really help. It's definitely worth asking about it.
