Venlafaxine
« on: June 28, 2012, 12:57:45 AM »
Ive read the threads in the info bit about this med but I guess Im just looking for some more input. I know your not Drs etc but experience is sometimes better.

Ive missed a few doses here and there, like one morning due to not waking up until 5pm or an evening due to falling asleep before taking it. I know its meant to be a really bad one to withdraw from.

Could doing things like that lead me to feeling so physically ill that I vomit and have really bad headaches and just general blerghness? Its not constant missing and its not like Ive missed a whole days worth in one go.

In my experience, yes. I'm on the modified release tablet now, but when I was taking the standard tablets, missing just one of my daily doses would make me feel terrible. Nausea, dizziness, lots of general bleughness and I got very tearful.

It's worth it though, in my case. It's been by far the best medication I've taken for my mood.

Thanks Terri, I thought it might be this.

Ive never really had a withdrawal reaction to any medications before so this is a new thing for me! And I cant say I appreciate it!!

I know what you mean; it was a new experience for me too. Like you say, not appreciated. :hug2:

Is there any way you can make sure you take them? Alarms on your phone etc? If you take them regularly they're more likely to have a positive effect on your mood (or so I was told. I also used to miss doses, which is why I was switched to the once daily stuff).

Ive got doest boxes as Im on quite a lot of other medication so its not very often I forget to take them and if I do, its generally due to the fact Im not awake when I should be.

It would be so much easier if I could get it all as one huge depot!

Urgh, my sympathies. One of the most effective drugs I've been on but it made me feel soooo poorly if I missed a dose.

Thanks Tallulah, its truly horrible!

To be honest when I first read others experiences of this med (before starting it) I thought everyone was just hamming it up but now I know so different.

Ive only been on it for 3/4 weeks so  I hate to imagine what its going to be like in a few months...

Just echoing what others have said, yes the withdrawal of missing even one dose is brutal! But there are ways of easing it with your GP when you do come off it.
