Does this work to help sleep?
« on: July 02, 2012, 12:02:00 AM »
Just been talking to a samaritan about sleep, he asked if I listened to the radio, then told me music keeps you awake, which could explain a LOT as I keep a music channel on all night.

Anyway he told me to listen to a talk show, on really low so it's just a hum (so you don't get interested in it) and the hum would eventually, with time, stop the racing thoughts in your head and help you sleep.
When you feel like letting go, hold on.

Courage does not always roar.
Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".

I find the opposite, from personal experience.

I listen to music most nights when I'm going to sleep. Quite often soundtracks, though, so there are no words or anything. (and sometimes they make you feel epic, even when you're just lying there snuggling!)

On the other hand, if there's talking and I can't hear it it keeps me on edge. I have, however, been known to fall asleep whilst watching a QI on my laptop, so I must be able to sleep when I can hear what's going on.

Just my personal experience though!

I hate falling asleep in silence as I have bad tinnitus so when its just me I generally leave the tele on and let what ever is on play away to the cat but before I was able to use the tele I used to listen to classical music or use the white noise machines

I do agree with jack though, if its too low I tend to strain to hear it.

Every night I listen to the first 5 chapters of harry potter and the philosopher's stone...works well for me cus its just that it is there. Also helped with being worried because I recite it in my head if I get stuck and it helps me not go over stuff too much.

I guess it all depends on why you can't sleep.

“It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

I listen to the radio every night in bed. Usually 5Live. The weirdest thing is that I often have dreams about whatever subject they're talking about while I'm sleeping so my dreams can be really vivid. It's fun!

I can't sleep without music on. But then, I can't do much without music - I'm very rarely seen without a set of headphones on.

Depends what kind of music for me ... Dream music like Boards of Canada, Explosions in the Sky, Youth Lagoon etc. often help me sleep, but then if I put I dunno David Guetta or Eminem on, no way would I sleep!

I absolutely can't sleep to any type of music it winds me up too much and I can't switch off to the melody thinking how i would play it on the guitar etc... so it sends my brain into overdrive...

wish I could tho!
