Hi, I am a student at the University of Manchester conducting an interview study to explore mental health staff’s perspectives on young people’s suicidal behaviours.

What’s Involved?
You will be invited to take part in an interview.

Who Can Take Part?
Mental health staff who have previously or currently worked with young people (aged 16-24) experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviours.

How to Join:

Research Topics / Research about the choice of methods in self-injury

Hi everyone,
I hope you are doing ok.

I am conducting a study about what makes someone choose a specific method of self-injury instead of another, and I am searching for participants to interview.

So far, we still do not understand why people select specific methods of self-injury. I would like to exchange with people who engage with self-injury to hear about their own perspective with it and methods of self-injury. I hope understanding why people turn to specific methods can enable professionals to better adjust support and treatment.

This research will involve one-to-one written conversations with a maximum of twenty participants via internet text messaging, also known as chats, on an online platform of your choice, such as WhatsApp, Discord, Facebook, Instagram or Zoom, or the DMs of this forum. Interviews should take about 20 minutes to complete.

I will ask questions about your experience with self-injury, the methods you choose, and your reasons for choosing them.

Your contributions may be cited in the research, but will remain anonymous. I will use a pseudonym to refer to you. You will be able to skip questions that make you feel uncomfortable.
Participant requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to take part in this research, and must have engaged in self-injury at least 5 times over the past year.

Hello, I'm a trainee clinical psychologist looking to hear from people with lived experience of suicide ideation, in the hope to inform future intervention, practice and support. This is an online survey exploring the relationship between emotion processing and thoughts of suicide. Your voice is appreciated.

This study is looking for people who are:

· Aged 18 or above, and

· Have had thoughts about suicide in the last 6 months

People can often find it hard to understand and respond to their emotions. This may make some people more likely to think about hurting themselves or taking their own life. This research aims to find out more about how we process our emotions and the relationship between this process and thoughts about suicide.

The study will ask participants to complete an online survey about emotional processing, suicide ideation and related topics. It is estimated to take 15-20 mins.

The survey is anonymous and there is a prize draw entry (optional).

Please prioritise your own safety when considering taking part. We ask that those who are experiencing current thoughts of suicide do not complete the survey at this time; support resources are available on the webpage and we will welcome your responses at later date.

Hi all!

Some of you might remember that I conducted a consultation on this forum a few months ago regarding a study on self-harm and social identity. Your input was extremely helpful and informed the eventual design of our study, so thank you all very much! I have now obtained ethical approval for the study, which you can find below. It involves a questionnaire which should take no more than 20 minutes. We're looking for people who self-harm and are aged 18 or over.

I think our research is valuable and looks at something which is understudied: the role of communities for people who self-harm.
