Any comments on 'A new method of stress relief'
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:12:35 AM »
Hi I am a design student,

I have set out the aim to try and design something that can help distract or de stress somebody who self harms.

The product I have at the moment is credit card sized and current features are:
  • Flexing in the middle to provide the same stress release as a stress ball
  • Hard rubber section to dig nails into
  • Section to bite/use teeth with
  • A corner to roll and click
  • Lots of textures to offer a sensory experience
  • Fits in pocket/wallet ect to keep on you when needed

What I would like from you is:
  • A. feedback on the current features (Negative and positive)
  • B. Any of your own methods of keeping yourself busy.
  • C. If you had your own Stress device, What would you want it to have?

The best way to understand it is to see it, so please have a look,

i dont like the colours so a choice of colours might be good
for stress relief i woul prefer the whole thing to be sqeezable/squashable as i like to make things as small as i can in my hand

Just a question really, does it survive being thrown?

Possibly some kind of 'positive message' or a list of free simple distractions to use in addition to it.

Also where will this be available!?!
“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”

“It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

I think this is a fantastic idea! Im not understanding the biting bit, but ive never done that so thatll be why it doesnt appeal to me. I like the roller ball/click part though, and the fact it flexes. I think i respond more to the click part of it. I used to keep an Oasis drink bottle cap because it clicked, and it was good to fiddle with.

Keep up the research, fantastic to have ideas like this floating around!!

I love it.
I find sensory products very distracting, also like that it can survive biting!! I'd like that its bumpy on the outside to. I have a textured tangle that I love. I like the ball in The corner, because that will be cold, and 'grounding' I guess. :) different colours would be cool to, tho I love the colour green. :)

Hope this is what your looking for.... I want one.  eek

Could it write on skin? That's what I find most helpful.
