EMDR therapy
« on: April 12, 2012, 12:06:12 PM »
Hi,

Has anyone tried EMDR therapy for PSTD/flashbacks etc?  Would be interested to hear people's views on it as I am currently waiting for it.

Thanks.

I did EMDR. It was helpful. I stopped it too early (I wanted to stop getting help, so I started to just not turn up. That way they stopped making appointments for me), but what I had was helpful.

I had emdr, I found it really really helpful dealing with the traumatic memories it just helped me re process them. It really helps if you have a trusting relationship with the emdr therapist. Also it really helps if your in an ok place at the time of therapy as it is traumatic going over old memories. I found I was ok for a while after the therapy and then it made ms worse for a while. I definitely recommend it though.

Years ago my therapist suggested it to me and said it works for many people. I looked it up on google (where else :;): ) and giggled to myself wondering why she suggested it as luckily I don't have flashbacks and not bothered by my past so it wouldn't work on me. Don't think it helped that I had a funny image in my head of me lying on a sofa and some magician type guy wiggling his fingers in my face....random image but good for an instant chuckle :;): I'm assuming it's nothing like that.
Hope it helps you hun. My therapist did say it was really good and helpful for peeps with flashbacks.

Thanks for your views, I am having to wait until I am in a more "stable" state as they have warned me that it will be traumatic, but if it stops the flashbacks or even lessens them it will be worth it.
