Gender Stereotyping (mentions harming)
« on: February 01, 2013, 06:34:25 PM »
So, this week Radio 1's Greg James rowed down the Zambezi river for Comic Relief.

They had all the standard Africa stuff, and also the usual helping of things that the money will help in this country. One of these was "helping young girls who are self harming"

I think it's sad that it was marketed by Radio 1 as "young girls" rather than "young people". I know that the statistics show that more women harm than men, but there are also statistics to show that a lot of men who harm that aren't getting shown on the previously mentioned statistics.

I also get the feeling that it might discourage young men from coming forward to get help for the harming, and seems to make it more taboo for men who harm

I'm rambling now, but it just struck me as sad :(

i dont think your rambling

i feel you are raisin a very valid point

that has be massively over looked for years

and one that i often raised with proffessionals

who just blab it off
no one wants to know
no one cares
those who do want to know,
want to know so they can use it against me
hurt, pain, anger, destruction, death and hatred, the story of my life
all i hope for is some one i can love trust and believe loves and cares for me and wants whats best for me

I thought that too i may have been a young girl originally but i'm not now. Men SH and what about older people i know there are plenty of us on this site over 18 some with families etc etc so def not a young girl thing (could be an old man thing :;):)

I know the feeling. Everything thinks it is only young girls who do it. It frustrates me. And also makes me wonder if because it is always young girls that are mentioned whether people would judge me differently because i  am not a young girl!
