Amitriptyline side effects
« on: May 17, 2013, 09:38:25 PM »
Hi,

Can Amitriptyline make you more thirsty?

I'm not sure if this is just psychological, or a side effect but over the past month or so I've noticed that I've been drinking more and more fluids. Especially with dinner it makes me a little anxious if I can't have at least four different drinks in front of me.

seeing psychiatrist next Tuesday (i think) so may ask him, but i just want an idea before i go.

sorry if this is in the wrong place..

Amitriptyline is one of many drugs which has 'dry mouth' as a side effect. sucking sweets or chewing gum may also help - if you think you mouth may be dry try to balance a bit spit om your tongue!  Not easy!!

Hayley is right. Amytriptyline is notorious for causing dry-mouth. I just came off it in the past week as it isn't working for me, but I took to carrying a water bottle with me most of the time as I had such bad dry mouth.

Be careful of over consumption of fluids though, can do more harm than good if it gets to extremes.

Thank u both

I do get dry mouth in the morning, usually ok by time I've had a few quick pints of water

It's mainly while eating that's increasing

Sounds like its normal I guess.
