Title: help please - at what point do i need steri-strips? (graphic sh)
Post by: findingmyway on November 27, 2011, 07:23:59 PM

I'm sorry for asking I should know this by now so going to look really stupid.

Ive cut my leg tonight, the thing is, I've got out of the habit of assessing my cuts and working out if I need steris etc so I'm not sure if I need them?

:trig:

A couple of the cuts are gaping a bit and a couple are gaping a bit and can see the fatty bit underneath. I'm certain they're nothing major but not sure if I need to try to steri them?

Sorry for being stupid :frying pan:

hi fmw, firstly never feel stupid, youre not and secondly well done for asking for help. :hug1:

i often find myself asking this question, i have been told in the past that if it is gaping and you can see fatty bits you need to get it steri stripped back together, to prevent the gaping. i often wonder why...been told its mainly infection prevention plus it will heal better and leave a less,um wide scar??

is it still bleeding or ok? i find it hard to sick steris on when its still bleeding,so i put dressing on until bleeding stops then steri...i have no idea if this is correct as only had it done by nurse once and at a and e once and in those situations never in the right frame of mind to ask what i shpuld do myself.

hope that makes sense and i hope you are ok? here if you want to talk.xx

Thankyou :hug2:

I just think I've done this so much I should know what to do by now ::)

Thankyou, I will have a go at putting steris on them later. Yea I usually dress them first then go back and steri later once they've stopped bleeding. They are bleeding a little as I had to kneel down on them to clean up, they should stop now I'm sitting down.

Mmm, I'm not really sure how I am to be honest.... Anxious? Kind of distressed. Not about cutting though, I don't care about that, just, I don't know :'(
